Magna Carta
The
“Magna Carta” (Gran Carta in Latin) was originally issued in the year
1215 and included the most direct challenges to the monarch’s authority,
the Charter requires King John of England to proclaim certain liberties
and accept that his will was not arbitrary. It was also an important
part of the extensive process that led to the rule of constitutional law
in English Speaking world.
It is also significant that no one could have been arrested, or his goods coud be taken by the Kingdom without judgment. Moreover in Magna Carta Libertatum it was provided that if the King wouldn’t respect the Card – committee of 25 barons could overrule the will of the King, seizing his castles and possessions if it was considered necessary. In fact they could overthrow the King.
ReplyDeleteEven though Magna Carta established many freedoms, Society was still divided into groups, and in fact only citizens with highest social statues were able to enjoy those freedoms.
Magna Carta (with later changes) still remains on the statute books of England and Wales
